Apply for leave

A leave request goes to whoever approves your leave, who approves or declines it in E·BIZI ESS. You do not need to email anyone or fill in a form on paper.

Send a request

Apply for Leave is on the dashboard and on the Leave screen. Both open the same form.

Pick a Leave Type, set Start Date and End Date, add a Reason, and choose Submit Application. You land back on the Leave screen with the request showing as Not Reviewed.

Sick and family responsibility leave need a document attached as well. See sick notes and other documents below.

The leave types

Annual, Sick, Family, Maternity, Study, Other, Unpaid and Absenteeism.

Any of them can be requested. Only annual, sick and family carry a running balance in E·BIZI ESS, so a study leave request has no days-remaining figure behind it. What the law entitles you to is in BCEA leave entitlements.

When a reason is required

Sick, Family, Maternity, Study and Other will not submit without one. For annual, unpaid and absenteeism it is optional, though your manager sees the box either way and a line of explanation saves a phone call.

Sick notes and other documents

Family responsibility leave always needs a supporting document, a death or birth certificate for instance. Sick leave needs one when the request runs to more than two working days, which is what the law expects of a sick note.

Choose the upload area under the dates and pick the file. PDF, JPG, PNG and Word documents are accepted. The form will not submit without the document when one is required, and it says which one it wants.

Your manager gets the document with the request, so there is no need to hand over a paper copy as well.

How the days are counted

E·BIZI ESS counts working days, so weekends and South African public holidays inside your dates are not charged against your balance. Ask for the Friday to the Monday and it comes to two days.

Dates you already have a request for

You cannot have two live requests over the same dates. Submitting one that overlaps is refused, and the message names the request that is in the way and its dates.

Cancelled and declined requests do not block anything, so those dates are free to use again.

What happens next

Your leave manager is told, by email, that the request is waiting.

You get an email when they decide, and the status on your Leave screen changes to Approved or Declined. A decline carries the reason they gave.

An approval does not move your leave balance on its own. The days come off when your employer records them against that month's payroll, which can be a while later. See why the balance has not moved.
